Welcome to OEGlobal 2024

CityCat going under the Story Bridge

The 2024 Conference Theme is ‘Open is Everyone’s Business’ to encapsulate the notion that openness is not only the purview of librarians, education designers, and faculty but rather includes staff from across the entire institution and into the broader community. It encompasses the entire education sector, the GLAM (Gallery, Libraries, Archives, & Museums) sector, policymakers, citizen science groups, and more.  All have a role to play in creating a society where free and open access to knowledge is practised, normalised, and valued.

OEGlobal 2024 recognises the multifaceted nature of openness and the maturing intersection between open and key societal concepts linked to inclusion, diversity, access, cultural representation, and social justice.

Open is used in numerous contexts; from open data, open repositories, open source, open research, open science, open scholarship, open access, and open education.

We invite you to consider proposals in the following areas (that should not be considered a comprehensive list):

  • Artificial Intelligence and its anticipated impact on open education (i.e. ethics, practices)
  • Data sovereignty and openness in education and research
  • Digital competence in open education
  • Free and open micro-credentialing
  • Inclusion, diversity, equity, and access to Open Education Resources (OER) and Open Education Practices (OEP)
  • Local Indigenous cultures and ways of knowing
  • Open access publishing
  • Open data
  • Open educational practices, including open assessment
  • Open education policies and strategies
  • Open licencing
  • Open practitioners, identity, and space in education
  • Open repositories
  • Open source technical platforms in education – successes and challenges for open education
  • Open textbooks
  • Social justice and OER and OEP
  • Student perspectives on open education
  • Sustainability in open education practice.

We look forward to offering a diverse, robust program that captures, communicates, and invites collaboration across the many facets of open.

We encourage submissions that provide creative solutions for attaining the UN Sustainable Development Goals and/or focus on expanding the reach and understanding of “Open as everyone’s business”.
