2022 In-Person Congress

May 23-25, 2022
The Open Education Global 2022 In-person Congress will take place in Nantes, France between 23–25 May 2022.
After two years as an online gathering, the OE Global conference returns to an in-person format with a live Congress in Nantes. During the conference period the OEGlobal 2022 “And Conference” will enhance the congress with an online aspect to the program.
Both the “In-Person” and “And Conference” aspects of OE Global 22 continue the 2021 online conference theme of furthering the implementation of the UNESCO Recommendation on OER. As with the 2021 online conference, this event is co-hosted by OEGlobal and Nantes Université.
In-Person Congress
The 3-day in-person Congress in Nantes is a forum for the global open education community to directly engage in international cooperation that furthers the implementation of the UNESCO OER Recommendation. The in-person program is arranged around plenaries, thematic sessions, and learning labs alongside specialised meetings and events comprising stakeholders from different projects or initiatives
Plenaries and Thematic Sessions
Plenary sessions are organized around four of the five main action areas of the UNESCO OER Recommendation. Adopted in 2019, and advanced by the Dynamic OER Coalition as well as the international open education community, the Recommendation focuses on the following Action Areas: Capacity Building, Policy, Access, and Sustainability. The fifth Action Area, International Cooperation, is seen as transversal and is integrated into all parts of the In-person Congress.
Thematic sessions provide opportunities for focused debates on different topics which are perceived pertinent by the global open education community. Eight thematic sessions have been identified in order to address some of the more urgent issues in Open Education today: 1. Libraries and Librarians, 2. Frontier Technologies, 3. Open Education Research, 4. Publishers and EdTech Providers – Open Education Friend or Foe?, 5. Open Education: The Role of Students, 6. Combining different Opens: Access, Science, Data, Resources, 7. Pathways to Opening Up Education, and 8. Open Education for Primary/ Secondary/K-12 Sectors
Learning Labs
Learning Labs focus on any topic that is relevant to Open Education. These sessions will take the form of a workshop, a brainstorming collaboration, or a participatory how-to session.
Group Meetings
Groups interested in Open Education can both attend the Congress and use a room for their meeting. Registration of a specific group is possible, including the full registration and the use of a meeting room for a half-day. If you are interested, please contact Solenn GILLOUARD (Solenn.Gillouard@ls2n.fr) as soon as possible.
Promotion & Partnering
Companies, projects, and organizations can use a room at the Congress to present and promote their activities linked with open education. This gives initiatives a chance to find partners, build a community around their open education initiative, and engage in activities that steward and sustain open education. Registration of a specific group is possible, including the full registration and the use of a meeting room for a half-day. If you are interested, please contact Solenn GILLOUARD (Solenn.Gillouard@ls2n.fr) as soon as possible.
OEGlobal 22 “And Conference”
Recognizing that many educators who participated in the two previous OE Global conferences that took place online are not able to travel to Nantes, the OEGlobal22 team has organised participation and engagement opportunities for those “Not in Nantes.”
This Unconference is an enhanced aspect of the Nantes Program for all, and is not intended as a separate element.
The OEGlobal 2022 “And Conference” is not a presentation-based online conference or even a hybrid conference format. It is not intended in opposite or as an alternative to the in-person experience; rather the Unconference design is an enhancement to the Nantes Program for all. It is designed to provide a variety of connective channels for participation from wherever you are during the conference.
The OEGlobal 2022 “And Conference” is a variation inspired by the concept of Yes, and. concept, hence our naming of this as an “AND” conference.
The “And Conference” will include:
- OEG Connect – as a hub for content from Nantes Sessions, Unconference Sessions, and Interaction activities connecting In Nantes with Not-in-Nantes. To be used for discussion and resource sharing.
- Live Streaming – of keynotes and larger sessions with archives being accessible as soon as possible.
- Watch parties – for keynotes and other sessions being available for “Rewatch and Discuss” sessions with the global community.
- Live annotation – shared resources, ideas, and examples from the congress and global community will be added directly to relevant parts of the OER Recommendation using web annotation in Pressbooks.
- Hallway Conversations – be part of the conversation. Connect to your colleagues in Nantes and online using audio via Twitter Spaces during coffee breaks.
- Conference Side Chats – scheduled events where invite key delegates from Nantes can chat about that day’s events with online participants via Zoom
- Daily “Pulse”– volunteer key questions that you feel need to be answered. Answer the key questions related to the action areas on note boards/charts in Nantes, via social media, and online as polls in Connect.
- OEG22 Vox Pop – audio responses Vox Populi style to focused questions via roving reporters (in Nantes) and via Flipboard (Not in Nantes).
This will be based in the OEG22 And Conference space on OEG Connect. It requires no fee to participate.
Be part of the “And Conference” – We’ll see you there!
