Call for Contributions In-Person Congress in Nantes, France (23-25 May 2022) is CLOSED!

We invite proposals for contributions to the OEGlobal 2022 in-person Congress in Nantes, France. The in-person Congress builds upon the Online Conference that took place between 27 September-1 October 2021.

OEGlobal 2022 will comprise of plenaries, thematic sessions, and learning labs. Rooms will also be available for group meetings and promotional events. 

We welcome submissions and presentations in any of the six official languages of the United Nations – Arabic, Chinese, English, French and Spanish.

Open Education Global Conference is the premier event for Open Education. It is the meeting place for communities interested in using, developing, promoting, advancing, and mainstreaming Open Education.

Session Formats:

We welcome submissions for contributions to the following four session types:

1. Plenaries: UNESCO OER Recommendation Action Areas

Plenary sessions will be organized around the four main action areas of the UNESCO OER Recommendation. Adopted in 2019, and advanced by the Dynamic OER Coalition as well as the international open education community, the Recommendation focuses on the following Action Areas: Capacity Building, Policy, Access, and Sustainability. The fifth Action Area, International Cooperation, is seen as transversal and is integrated into all parts of the in-person Congress.   

Submissions of two types of plenary presentations are encouraged: lightning talks (10 minutes presentation +5 minutes for discussion) and longer presentations (20 minutes presentation +5 minutes for discussion). Submissions and presentations can be made in any of the six official languages of the United Nations – Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. 

2. Thematic Sessions

Thematic sessions provide opportunities for focused debates on different topics which are perceived pertinent by the global open education community.  Eight thematic sessions have been identified in order  to address some of the more urgent issues in Open Education today: 1. Libraries and Librarians, 2. Frontier Technologies, 3. Open Education Research, 4. Publishers and EdTech Providers – Open Education Friend or Foe?, 5. Open Education: The Role of Students, 6. Combining different Opens: Access, Science, Data, Resources, 7. Pathways to Opening Up Education, and 8. Open Education for Primary/ Secondary/K-12 Sectors. More information on each thematic session can be found in the table below.

3. Learning Labs

Learning Labs can focus on any topic relevant to Open Education. These sessions could take the form of a workshop, a brainstorming collaboration, or a participatory how-to session. Learning Labs can be proposed in any of the six official languages of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish) and can last 40 minutes or 1 hr 30 minutes.

Libraries and librariansLibrarians are taking an increasing role in the dissemination of OER. This session aims at a better understanding of the key role that librarians can take, the motivations, and the best way to work with them
Frontier TechnologiesTech in terms of Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain and beyond, are becoming a client for Open education and an operator. The session aims at understanding what is at stake and discussing the limitations of such approaches
Open Education ResearchWhat are the promising lines of research? What do we need Researchers to investigate? Which teams are focusing currently on these questions? Who is doing what in terms of PhDs?
Publishers and EdTech Providers – Open Education Friend or Foe?Publishers are part of the equation and so is the industry, in particular the ed-techs. Does open education represent a challenge, an opportunity?
Open Education: The Role of StudentsWhat roles do students play? Do they benefit from open education? How can they contribute?
Combining different Opens: Access, Science, Data, ResourcesWhat do the different open activities share? What makes each different?
Pathways to Opening Up EducationOpen Education is a process, and there are different entry points, and therefore there are different activities that diverse stakeholders can focus on
Open Education for Primary/ Secondary/K-12 SectorsIf Higher Education represents the bulk of OER activity today, initiatives are taking place to develop ideas in schools
3. Learning Labs

These are intended to train participants, engage them in thoughtful discussion, provide opportunities for feedback, and incubate new projects and ideas
Rooms for Group Meetings & Promotional EventsGroups involved with open education initiativesGroups involved with open education initiatives can both attend the conference and use a room to host a meeting related to their work.

Promotional EventsCompanies, projects, and organizations can use a room in the Congress area to present and promote their activities linked with Open Education. This gives a chance to both be present during the Congress and support the conference.

Additional Instructions

  • Proposals for sessions presentations in the plenaries, thematic sessions, and  learning labs have to be submitted through this form.
  • If you would like to request Rooms for Group Meetings & Promotional Events, please contact Solenn GILLOUARD as soon as possible.
  • Please ensure that you provide enough information about your proposed contribution to assess its relevance.
  • We promote multilingualism. Therefore, we encourage you to provide additional information about your proposed session in any of the official United Nation languages by uploading an additional document (PDF format) during the submission process.    
  • For plenaries and thematic sessions, the actual formats are yet to be decided and will depend on the number, variety and languages of the submissions. During the submission process, you will also need to select your preferred method of presentation.
  • The number of proposals that can be accepted under different session types is limited. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to submit your proposal as soon as possible.
  • If you need a quick response to your submission (i.e. before March 2022), perhaps to enable you to secure funding from your institution for your attendance at the in-person Congress, please note your request during the submission process. Where appropriate, the OEGlobal 2022 Programme Chairs will aim to make an early decision on whether your submission is accepted or not. The submission will also be peer reviewed as part of the usual review process.
  • All authors with accepted proposals will need to register for the Congress, pay applicable registration fees and attend the in-person Congress in Nantes.
  • For the in-person Congress, it is essential that new members of the community get a chance to come and speak at the conference. We are fully aware that this opportunity will be challenging for a number of reasons, including those linked with the Covid pandemic. Our way of supporting those who will support the conference is by offering you a very reduced early fee (register by 31st of December) which includes lunches, coffee breaks, and social events. By submitting as early as possible, and as we will be reviewing on the fly, we would be able to give you an answer in the following days. 
  • These are both very complicated times to organize such an event and yet also a special opportunity to reconnect in-person and support open education through our interaction with UNESCO and the chosen format for the conference. So we hope you will join us.
