\nCEO of Council on Higher Education
\nSouth Africa<\/span><\/p>\nNarend Baijnath<\/b> is CEO of the Council on Higher Education since October 2015. Before joining the CHE, he was Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of South Africa. Prior to that he occupied the positions of Vice Principal: Strategy, Planning and Partnerships and VP Research and Planning at the same institution. As PVC at UNISA he drove the digitisation and OER strategies of the university.<\/span><\/p>\nNarend holds a Masters Degree from Durham University, and a Doctorate from the University of the Western Cape. He taught at the universities of Cape Town and Western Cape before joining Technikon SA in 1998 as Dean of Community Sciences. After serving his term in that capacity, he was promoted to Deputy Vice Chancellor: Planning and Development. <\/span><\/p>\nNarend has extensive experience in higher education policy, planning, quality assurance, and management. In addition, he has occupied numerous governance roles. He has served two terms on the Higher Education Quality Committee. In July 2012 he was nominated the South African representative on the Commonwealth of Learning Board by the Minister of higher education and training. \u00a0He has served on the CoL EXCO. \u00a0He currently serves on the boards of SAQA, Umalusi and QCTO. In 2014 he was elected Honorary Vice President of the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities of South Africa. Narend was recently elected chairperson of the CoL Audit Committee. <\/span><\/p>\nHe is a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa.
