Curation, publication and dissemination of academic research is often seen as an appendage to the core activities of collecting and analysing data. These activities can, however, serve to enhance the rigour and quality of research as well as ensure the resulting products can be discovered and used.

The Research on Open Educational Resources for Development (ROER4D) project has established a Curation and Dissemination (C&D) strategy that is designed to support research capacity building, amplify the visibility of outputs, promote citation, and profile OER researchers from the Global South. The strategy is underpinned by a strategic approach to openness and the operational imperative to curate and make content open by default in cases where it is legal, ethical, and adds value. Combining elements of Open Access, Open Research, and Open Data, the strategy ultimately positions the ROER4D coordinating body (the Network Hub) as a publishing partner to its network of over 100 researchers in 26 countries.

This presentation will provide an overview of the ROER4D C&D strategy and outline the five-phase C&D model adopted by the project in order to boost content development and research capacity building processes. It will also reference the project’s Open Data Initiative and highlight some of the challenges associated with curating and publishing mixed-methods Open Education research.
