The Hewlett funded OER World Map project will provide the most complete and comprehensive picture of the global OER movement up to date. To this end we have developed the OER World Map platform as well as a global network of expert partners and community volunteers to guarantee ongoing data curation. The presentation shows the results of the first year of developing the production system of the OER World Map, discussing some of the technical and human challenges that have been faced as well as an overview of the state of the OER movement in Europe. In the first part of the presentation several special features of the platform like ISCED based classification schemes, the ‘Openness Indicator’, and the ‘OER Activity Fields’ classification will be discussed. The second part gives a practical application of these features by exploring headline data about the current state of the European OER movement. The presentation also includes a call to action with the request that delegates join the project and contribute to the database.
