UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education

Since 2010, the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education has been doing research in Open Educational Resources with particular emphasis on the promotion of OER in non-English-speaking countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, China, France, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

Recently the Institute has run an online survey to analyze the attitude of policy makers and educators to the use of OER and MOOCs, as well as the future of credentialing learning results obtained using open content, and the related change of the role of institutions and teachers in higher education. In total, 149 respondents from 54 countries completed the survey. In addition, the subjects were discussed by the focus groups organized at international conferences on ICT in Education held in Paris, St. Petersburg and Sun City.

The paper will summarize and elaborate on the results of these two major studies completed by UNESCO IITE.
