Starting in fall of 2014 librarians in Washington state’s community and technical colleges participated in a cooperative project to grow professional development, outreach, and extensive planning to support open education initiatives at sixteen colleges. Washington has been a center for open education work since the statewide Open Course Library project. While the state increased the number of individuals who developed open education, institutional projects to increase open education adoption are still relatively rare. Librarians statewide, working through professional development organizations and leadership teams, determined that libraries can be a center of open education efforts at our institutions. With support from the Secretary of State and State Library, librarians in the community and technical colleges successfully earned a grant to develop librarian skills in open education. This presentation will discuss outcomes of the first year of goals from the statewide Library as Open Education Leader project.
