Getting started with Open Education – a crash course on starting an open education project<\/h2>\n

This one-day interactive workshop will introduce you to principles, tools and techniques that will allow you to get started with open education at your institution or organization.\u00a0 Participants will gain practical knowledge of the benefits and potential pitfalls in starting projects, convincing faculty and administrators, and integrating open education into institutional practice through examples from institutions around the world.<\/p>\n

The workshop will be conducted in a participatory manner with practical activities designed around the following topics:<\/p>\n

  1. Introduction to Open Education<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \n
    • Get used to the terms \u2013 Understand concepts and terms, including OER, OCW, Open Education, Open Policies, Open Content, Openness in Higher Education, Openness in MOOCs, Open Access, Open Data and benefits to institutions<\/li>\n
    • Online tools and platforms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      1. Creating support for Open Education<\/strong> at your institution, including tips for talking with faculty, staff, and administrators<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        1. Starting an Open Education Project: A Roadmap<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          • What to open and how – Assessing and evaluating existing resources to decide on the scope of the project<\/li>\n
          • Institutional policy on \u201cOpen\u201d<\/li>\n
          • Case studies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            1. Legal aspects: Open Licensing Framework<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              • Introduction to Creative Commons (CC)<\/li>\n

              • Compatibility issues of different licenses<\/li>\n
              • Proper licensing practices for your open content and institutional repositories<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                    Target Audience<\/strong><\/p>\n

                    Participation in the workshop is open to everyone, but will be particularly useful for those who:<\/p>\n

                    * have little or no prior experience with open education
                    \n* would like to initiate open education projects at their institutions<\/p>\n

                    * would like to learn more about any of the above topics in greater depth to improve existing open education project<\/p>\n

                    *would like to run a workshop on open education at their home institution (Yep, we will equip you with all the slides and resources for your workshop!)<\/p>\n
